Summer Courses

The Summer Sessions offer hundreds of courses each year from the regular course study programs offered during the normal academic year. The courses range from introductory lecture courses to specialized seminar courses, designed for advanced students.

The offered courses, however, vary, with the institutions, and only a certain amount of courses from the enormous university course selection are selected to be summer courses.

There is, nevertheless, a very large amount of choices. Normally, students can choose from 300 to 500 courses in the university summer catalogue. Moreover, the summer courses cover almost all areas of study, from classic subjects like Organic Chemistry and Financial Management to North American themes, such as Foreign relations to the US and History of Atlantic Provinces. There are, in addition, specialized courses, such as Work Behaviour of Women and Men, or Advanced Topics in Biomechanics & Tissue Engineering.

The duration for a Summer Session is about five to six weeks. At certain universities there are Summer Session courses lasting three, eight, or ten weeks. The longer Summer Sessions are many times intensive language courses in, for example, Russian, Arabic, and Spanish.

The course contents and required material, as well as the level of instruction during the Summer Sessions is the same as during the rest of the academic year. The course hours per week, and thus the intensity of the course slightly raises the Summer Session's level of difficulty.

The Summer Session students will receive regular university credits, and after completion, will receive the appropriate degree and transcripts to bring back to the native country. With these documents, the student will receive college credit back in their home country.
