Description of the Cologne Business School

More Photos
Cologne Business School is ranked tenth in the "Hochschulranking 06/07" among the best 25 business schools. For this survey, students, graduates and big companies´ staff managers have been interviewed, and further objective criteria such as length of study, ratio of students and teachers and internationalism played an important role. Regarding these criteria, CBS was even ranked second. CBS education is related to practice, inter cultural and multilingual, and it creates close relationships with national and international businesses which works as a good pathway to national and international enterprises. Due to the strict organization and the international faculty, an efficient and future-oriented course of studies is guaranteed. Not only professional, but also students´ social competences need to be encouraged, and that is why social commitment, critical thinking and respect of other cultures belong to the curriculum as well. By means of their gained analytical competence, graduates can solve all personal, operational and social tasks and thus achieve their personal aims. To keep the studies as much related to practice as possible, the school organizes guest lectures, business visits, workshops and many more interesting events. Besides, there is “Student Cologne e. V.” which is an association led by students. They arrange many happenings on campus such as the Cologne Party once a semester and help other students finding accommodation, jobs, internships and a lot more.

City Profile Cologne
Cologne is the fourth biggest city in Germany, regarding the population of almost one million people, and the third biggest city regarding its area. At the same time, it is the biggest city in the province of North Rhine-Westphalia. It lies in the Cologne bight along the River Rhine, and its harbor is one of the most important inner harbors in Europe. Cologne is an important center for insurance industry and culture; besides, it is growing a relevant center for media and headquarters for many associations. The climate is a mixture of the temperate sea zone and the continental zone with mild winters and convenient summers. Average monthly temperatures lie between 2,4 °C in January and 18,3 °C in July. Unofficially, the city´s symbol is the Cologne Cathedral which has been appointed World Heritage Site in 1996 and is the biggest Gothic church in Northern Europe. You can also visit many museums such as the Museum Ludwig, the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum and the Römisch-Germanisches Museum, just to mention a few. In the whole downtown area, there are remains of Roman buildings, partly even subterraneous in basement garages, cellars or beneath the city hall. Over ground, there are remains of the Roman city wall with the Römerturm. If you want to relax, you can visit one of the public parks like the more than 100 years old Volksgarten, where barbecues take place in summer, or the green space on the Aachener Weiher which is a popular meeting point for students. Nightlife is very lively in Cologne with many Clubs, Discos, Bars and Lounges, and the most popular nightlife areas are the Old Town, the Kwartier Latäng (the student quarter) around the Zülpicher and Luxemburger Straße, the Friesenviertel near the Friesenplatz and the Southern City at the Chlodwigplatz and the Alteburger Straße. Cologne is the German stronghold of carnival: The “fifth season” starts on the 11.11. at 11.11 on the Alter Markt and pauses after that until New Year. Then the “Session” begins and lasts until Ash Wednesday when the traditional eating of fish takes place. To take leave of carnival, the “Nubbelverbrennung” is being celebrated at midnight in the night from Tuesday to Ash Wednesday.
