Description of the University of California Santa Barbara

More Photos

University of California Santa Barbara offers over 200 different degrees. The main schools are the College of Creative Studies, College of Engineering, College of Letters and Science, Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, and the Graduate Division. U.S. News and World Report chose the university as the best "open university" in the USA. Newsweek Magazine named the school as one of the "hottest schools" in America. The school's faculty members have made it an on-going goal to provide an excellent-quality education and do research at local, state, national, and world-wide levels. Students should challenge themselves at the university to begin a new art, or take part in a research project, join one of the many student clubs, volunteer with a program, join the student parliament, or even begin a type of sport.

City Profile Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara is also called the American Riviera, because apart from the Mediterranean climate it has, lying between the Ynez Mountains and the Pacific, the city also offers a high standard of living. In this warm climate, Santa Barbara ascended to one of the best areas of cultivation of wine. Along the State Street toward Downtown, there are many shopping opportunities, but one can be also culturally occupied and visit theaters, concerts, and museums. Another kind of leisure activities are night clubs, restaurants or festivals. In addition, there are all possible kinds of water sport, on the long sand beaches and in the Pacific. There are no highly built houses, but only elegant small hotels and other buildings in the city, and nearly each road is framed by palms and flowering shrubs. Also worth seeing is the El Presidio de Santa Barbara, an old Mexican-Spanish quarter, around the fortress Fernald Mansion. In addition, on Sundays there are Crafts shows, in which artists and craftsmen demonstrate their talents along the Cabrillo Boulevard.

If you are interested in residing with an American family, you should familiarize yourself with certain living and house and rules.

US$ 22 per night without meals
